MAINSTAGE
The Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre (PRTT) was founded in 1967 and is a nationally recognized leader of the professional Latino, bilingual theater movement in New York and across the United States. Throughout the years we have had a consistent record as a theater company which adds diversity and quality productions to the New York theatrical landscape. Our theater has become a mecca for Hispanic and mainstream audiences, who enjoy high quality, professional productions (traditionally presented in English and Spanish) of plays by outstanding contemporary authors from Spain, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, etc., as well as United States based Latino playwrights.
Traditionally, two new productions are staged each year at our beautiful 194-seat theater on West 47th Street, in the heart of the Broadway district. The PRTT works with a wide range of contemporary theater artists, and Mainstage selections are intended to enrich the cultural and aesthetic panorama of the American theater. Our productions never fail to garner critical interest in the press, and are favored by scholars and the general audience alike. During the last 39 years, our Mainstage productions have garnered critical praise from The New York Times, The Daily News, New York Post, El Diario/La Prensa, The Star Ledger, San Juan Star, and many others.
